Danny Lilker returns with Anthrax!!!

ANTHRAX has announced that, due to personal reasons, bassist Frank Bello will not be able to accompany the band on its upcoming South American tour, set to kick off April 13, 2024 at MXMF The Metal Fest in Mexico City.

Filling in on those dates, as well as two U.S. festival shows in May, will be Anthrax founding member and original bassist Dan Lilker, marking his first appearance with the band in 40 years.

Lilker, who co-wrote and played on Anthrax’s debut album “Fistful Of Metal”, was also a member of STORMTROOPERS OF DEATH with Charlie Benante and Scott Ian.

In this exclusive interview with Metal Mayhem ROC, lilker shares for the first time exactly how long this Anthrax “Reunion” has been in the works, and how he was contacted about possibly filling in for Frankie Bello.

Danny shares his excitement for playing with Joey Belladonna and John Donais for the first time along with learning the newer Anthrax material.

Danny mentions that this will be the first time playing live some of the material he helped write in the early 80s.

There is set list teases, great personal reflections on his time in Anthrax, Nuclear Assault and S.O.D., as well as extensive commentary on the political correctness of Speak English or Die back in the 80’s.

Becky Baldwing joins Mercyful Fate!

I’m going off the assumption that some people don’t use Social Media and music websites all the time, and there could be some people out there who didn’t hear my really big news yet, so I’ll address that first!

I’ve joined Mercyful Fate as their permanent bass player!
In January, the band mutually parted ways with bassist Joey Vera, who had served the band as a live member since 2019. I was already poised to dep once again for Mercyful Fate in Brazil and Chile this summer, so I was ecstatic to be offered the permanent position – performing at all upcoming live shows and recording on future singles and albums!

I have already listened to many demos from guitarist Hank Shermann, and started recording bass ideas for them. There isn’t yet a date of release for the new music, but ideas are becoming more solid every week.

Understandably many people had questions about what is to happen with my other projects – I’m happy to confirm that nothing changes regarding Fury. I am still very much their bass player, I will be recording on their next album (more on that later!) and I will play all of the shows that I can. Mercyful Fate will not be very busy with gigs in the next couple of years, and so Fury tours can be easily planned around this. There may be occasional shows where Fury will take a dep bass player, but my aim is to minimise this as much as possible. Hands off Gretel are still on hiatus, so I’m sure I won’t have any trouble juggling the two active bands (I’ve experienced much worse in terms of clashing schedules!)

It’s a really incredible feeling to have been welcomed both by the band, and by the supportive fans into this legendary band. I still have to pinch myself sometimes!

Aweome news for Becky!

Myrath reveal their brand-new single today

Myrath reveal their brand-new single and accompanying music video for “Candles Cry” today –two weeks before their album “Karma” will be releasedon March 8th.

Hamburg, February 23rd

(Embargo: 10AM CEST)

Today, Myrath reveal their new single “Candles Cry” , the final peek into their upcoming new studio album “Karma” that will be released in exactly two weeks from now, on March 8th.

The song, a very special and personal one to the band, comes with a cinematic music video directed by Raf Reyntjens which was shot in May, 2023 in Belgrade (Serbia).

Says Kevin Codfert (producer & keyboarder of Myrath): “This song is very special to me as it’s the first vocal duet I’m singing with Zaher.

At first, it wasn’t supposed to go like this. I presented my interpretation of the chorus to Zaher, and he said, « I love your voice. So, go ahead, I’d rather have you sing it!! From a deeper perspective, this song is about the loss of free will, of soldiers who no longer know which cause they should support.”

The song deals with inner conflict and how these can easily manifest in a negative way – if you choose to not resolve it. In an ever-changing society, which is doomed to be under constant pressure, the band makes a strong statement and encourages people to tackle them through music.

The band members of Myrath are strong believer in “music being medicine for the soul” and wants to encourage people to use music as an escape from their daily lifes.

“Myrath might just be the most underrated band ever. Their new album really excites me

– they have something fresh and back it up with a great stage show. They played a tiny

stage at Wacken where nobody brings more than guitars and amps, and brought a two-

truck production. It was amazing!” – Pär Sundström, Sabaton

“There are too many great songs on this album to pick favourites.” – 9/10, Powerplay

(UK)

“This band will explode internationally in 2024” – Fireworks (UK)

As the sands of time continued to shape their journey, Myrath’s relentless dedication led to the creation of their highly anticipated album “Karma, ” slated for release on March 8th , 2024 on earMUSIC as limited transparent red LP, black LP and Digipak. The forthcoming opus promises to be a testament to their evolution, delivering a sonic tapestry woven from passion and innovation.

With “Karma”, Myrath solidify their place at the top of the metal scene with a powerful and captivating blend of Eastern melodies and Western heavy metal. From the epic opening track “To The Stars” to the hauntingly beautiful “Child Of Prophecy”, this album will take you on a theatrical journey through a world of myth and legend.

Powerful Debut Album Out This Friday – Feb. 24th

Days away from the album release, Los Angeles’ ANUBIS drop another track with the digital single “Priestess of Dark Paradise” now heard on all streaming/download platforms. Further enhanced the band brings you their first proper music video from the record capturing the band’s  live performance by director Kenji Tsunami (Hatchet, Tegmentum, Apothesary). “’Priestess of Dark Paradise’ is one from Justin’s [Escamilla – guitars] songs and given the Anubis treatment, ie; faster, shorter, more solos, and more vocal hooks,” explains singer Devin Reiche. “It’s about the toxic ex who you can’t stop yourself from longing after.”

“For the music video we gave an open call to everyone in our community in order to get a bigger-scale result than what we could achieve on our own, and it’s the second time the community came through beyond all expectations. Everyone who shows up to our shoots always brings their metal A-game, and are what make these videos legitimately special.”

“Priestess of Dark Paradise” follows up the two earlier advance tracks “Heartless” and “Devour” which can all be found on ANUBIS’ full-length debut ‘ Dark Paradise’ out this Friday.

‘Dark Paradise’ will be released on CD, limited colored (300) heartless purple vinyl and digital. Pre-Order and listening options HERE

Dark Paradise’ was produced by Devin Reiche with the recording taking place at Notes From Underground Studios, with a mix courtesy of Josh Franks (Once Human, Railgun, Highland) and mastering by the famed Mika Jussila (Nightwish, Avantasia, Gamma Ray) in Finland.  The album sports fantastic cover with artwork by Adi Dechristianize.

“’Dark Paradise’ marks our inaugural full-length album, and the anticipation is real! We believe this work strongly showcases our distinct blend of lightning-paced thrash riffs and resonant, memorable hooks that you’ve all come to expect from us,” states bassist Will Buckley. “We’re beyond excited to unleash this adrenaline-charged experience straight to your ears, and soon to a venue near you!”

Some upcoming live shows include (more to be announced soon) –

2/23 – Anubis Record Release Show – Molly Malone’s – Los Angeles, CA

4/16 – 1720 – Los Angeles, CA w/ Tyr, Trollfest, Aether Realm

4/20 – Medford Metal Fest – Medford, OR

ANUBIS have been building quite a reputation for the past six years. The outfit has been doing it the traditional way by playing shows all over Southern California, self-releasing a consistent handful of EPs & singles and promoting themselves organically not only online but actually getting out there and meeting people. Now armed with a powerful new album ANUBIS have teamed up with M-Theory Audio to take things to the next level.

Singer Devin Reiche may be a familiar name to fans of thrash and underground metal as he’s also the bassist in Bay Area thrashers Hatchet, but Devin actually lives in L.A. and power metal has always been his first love and calling. Working diligently Devin has developed his vocal abilities and become quite the commanding frontman.

Joining Devin in ANUBIS are guitarists Eleazar Llerenas (Delusional Fate) and Justin Escamilla (Tower Guard), bassist Will Buckley and drummer Robin Salazar (both formerly of Hydera), all musicians who’ve been cutting their teeth in the L.A. music scene. ANUBIS has opened for bands like Raven, Rhapsody of Fire, Warbringer, Heathen, Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens, Allegaeon, Hammerfall, Metal Church, Exmortus, Hatriot, and placing at the Wacken Metal Battle US final.
